Conclusion

The holiday drew to an end, both because we had only planned to stay for the month of August, and also by natural causes, the weather seemed to be less and less reasonable.

All in all, we had had a very good holiday, nothing too dramatic, either positively or negatively. Our experience and competence ruled out anything but an altogether modest level of peak bagging, but, what is far more important, we all came back, something which is, alas, not always the case.

We had learnt a lot, by ourselves, and this gave us the basis from which a successful expedition to the Hindu Kush in Afghanistan was to be organized the following year (Click here for an account).

The Petit Dru (again!), the Bonatti pillar is seen in profile.
