Map of the Paris region, click on place to visit.A Nice Day Out

After a few months in Paris, you will have visited all the local sites, tramped round Versailles, Fontainebleau, Chantilly and so on, if you are interested in old buildings or history or picnics that is. If not you had better go to another page, as what follows won't interest you!

This is the first of a number of selected outings from Paris, each of which can be done comfortably in a day by car. The most famous sites have been deliberately avoided as any number of tourist guides list them, they are mostly places discovered by chance and are not presented in any particular order of preference. Others will be published as time allows.

  1. The town and castle of Châteaudun, home of the Jean de Dunois, on the Loir.

  2. The Gallo-Roman site at Champlieu (Oise)
